Peggy Vann Barber

Peggy Vann Barber, 72, went to the Lord on Friday, July 22, 2011, after an arduous battle with cancer. The beloved wife of M. Scott Barber, Peggy loved her family, her church, and her friends with an enthusiasm that will resonate in the lives of those around her for many years to come. She especially cherished her homes on Ocracoke Island, relishing good conversation on the front porch and time spent on the beach with magnificent views of the ocean and sand between her toes. Peggy also enjoyed traveling in the US and abroad, reading, and studying the Bible.

Peggy was the daughter of the late Willie Gary Vann and Helen Lee Vann of Jackson. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Willie Louis Vann, of Jackson. Born and raised in Jackson, Peggy attended and graduated from Jackson High School in 1957. She worked at Halifax Paper Company until she married Scott Barber in March of 1966.

Peggy was an active and dedicated member of All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Roanoke Rapids. During her church life at All Saints’, she served in numerous capacities: Episcopal Church Women, Choir, Altar Guild, Vestry, Lay Eucharistic Ministry. She also was a 2009 charter member of the local chapter of the Episcopal Church’s Daughters of the King.

Mrs. Barber is survived by her husband, Scott Barber; children Eddie Atkinson and his wife, Kim (Roxboro, NC), Jack Barber and his wife, Kelly (Roanoke Rapids, NC), Margaret Barber Davidson and husband, Jeff (Mt. Lebanon, PA), and Mal Barber and his wife, Julie (Wilmington, NC); grandchildren, Logan Atkinson, Byron Atkinson, Sam Barber, Emma Barber, Harrison Barber, Ethan Barber, Carter Davidson, and James Davidson; brother, Bobbie Vann and his wife Ann (Richmond, VA); sister, Marie Vaughan and her husband Pete (Wilson, NC); and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at the Barber home at 103 Bayberry Ct. Roanoke Rapids, NC on Sunday, July 24th from 3-5pm. Funeral services will be held at All Saints’ Episcopal Church on Monday, July 25th at 2pm with the Reverends Marjorie Holm, Beverly Huck, and Duncan Jones officiating. Interment services will immediately follow at Old Trinity Episcopal Church Cemetery in Scotland Neck. The family will host a reception at their home after the interment service.
